Press Secretary Icban Visits Aklan
On March 20, 2010, the newly appointed Press Secretary Crispulo Icban visited Aklan to grace a tribute ceremony tendered by the Aklan media for former vice governor of Aklan, lawyer and journalist Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino; and the second anniversary of Kapihan Sa Aklan at Hernani's Mix and Match,Kalibo.
Atty. Tolentino was bestowed the Lifetime Achiever Award for his dedicated, outstanding and unparalleled achievements as a journalist, educator, lawyer, socio-civic and political leader, parliamentarian and historian.

Recipe: Squid Snack
Squid Snack
squid--6000 grams
salt---8.37 grams
MSG (monosodium glutamate)---4.0 grams
Wash the squid. Split at the back where the "quill" or shell is located. Remove the head, viscera, and skin. Scrape the skin until white and wash (skin removal can be facilitated by blancing for 2-3 seconds in boiling water).
Rub both sides with salt--MSG mixture. Use the proportions given above. Let stand overnight.
Pressure-cook for 1 hour at 15 lbs. pressure. (The length of time of pressure cooking depends on the size of the squids used.)
Spread on screen trays and partially dry for 10-15 minutes. Press in roller press. Dry under the sun.
The product is then ready to be fried.

April 25, 2010 is another big event in Aklan.
On this day, Aklan will celebrate its 54th anniversary as an independent province from Capiz, after more than three centuries of being a part of Capiz.
It should be recalled that before the Spaniards came to Aklan, Aklan was already an independent "province" when the whole of Panay was divided into three political units: Aklan, Antique,and Iloilo. There was no Capiz then. But when the Spaniards came, they found out that there was enough food found in Pan-ay. They then decided that the seat of government in Aklan be transferred to Pan-ay. That erased the province of Aklan in the map of the Philippines until April 25, 1956 when then Pres. Ramon Magsaysay signed RA 1414. The bill was filed by then Congressman Godofredo P. Ramos, making him the Father of Aklan.

Congratulations to Edna Laurente Faral
The Philippine Performing Arts Company of Tampa Bay won first place in the World Culture Folk Dance Competition 2010 in Azales International Folk Fair, Valdosta, Georgia on March 6, 2010. This is the second time that the PPCA won this contest. One of the dancers here is Edna Laurente Faral, an Aklanon, and her son Concon.
